Abstract
Based on Survey of National Social Economic 2004 reported
by the Ministry of Health show the general prevalence
of malocclusion and temporo mandibulare junction
in Indonesia has reached 80. Malocclusion is a dental
occlusion shape that deviates from the normal, the deviation
of which is crowdeed, caninus ectopik, disto-occlusion,
mesio occlusion, crossbite and diastema. Physical
factors such as tooth abnormalities, or malocclusions
adversely affect the aesthetic appearance, comfort in
speaking or chewing food would affect one’s motivation to
perform orthodontic treatment. The results of a preliminary
study conducted in SMA N 1 Sewon Bantul obtained
223 students had cases of malocclusion and 125 students
expressed a desire to straighten teeth.The research
purpose to determine the relationship of malocclusion with
orthodontic treatment motivation in class X SMA N 1 Sewon
Bantul in 2013.
The kind of this research is observational with cross sectional
data retrieval. The population in this study were students
of class X SMA N 1 Sewon Bantul many as 223
students. Method of sampling Quota sampling by means
of a population of 30 respondents. Influence variable of
malocclusion and orthodontic treatment motivation affected
variables. The technique of collecting data by giving
questionnaires to students and conduct direct examination
irregularities form of malocclusion in students . The
location of this study taken in SMA N 1 Sewon Bantul. Statistical
test using Chi Square test of correlation. The results
of research conducted on student respondents X
SMA N 1 Sewon Bantul obtained with highly motivated students
with a form of malocclusion crowdeed, ectopic
caninus, disto-occlusion. Chi Square test results malocclusion
orthodontic treatment motivation class X SMA N 1
Sewon Bantul obtained significantly by 0.010 < á value of
0.05, meaning that Ho is refused and Ha accepted. So
there is a significant or meaningful relationship between
malocclusion with orthodontic treatment motivation.
There is significant or meaningful relationship between
malocclusion with orthodontic treatment motivation in students
X SMA N 1 Sewon Bantul.
