Flute instrumental music relaxation effectively reduces anxiety in premenopausal women
Abstract
Premenopause, generally occurring between the ages of 40 and 49, is a natural transitional phase characterized by both physical and psychological changes, including increased levels of anxiety, which can adversely affect a woman’s quality of life. This study aimed to examine the effect of instrumental flute music as a relaxation intervention to reduce anxiety levels among premenopausal women in the Mangkubumi Public Health Center area, Tasikmalaya, Indonesia. Using a quantitative, a preliminary study utilizing a single-group design with measurements taken before and after the intervention, combined with selective sampling based on specific criteria, 51 participants were assessed employing the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) as a measurement tool. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, which revealed a statistically significant reduction in anxiety levels following the intervention (p = 0.000). These findings underscore the potential effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions, such as music therapy, in enhancing mental well-being among women in the premenopausal stage. Thus, flute music relaxation may serve as an effective alternative intervention for managing anxiety in premenopausal women. It is suggested that future studies investigate the prolonged impact and generalizability across broader populations.
