The effect of UV-C exposure time on the reduction of total coliforms in drinking water at PT. X
Abstract: Clean water at PT. X contains 38 CFU/100ml of Total Coliform, exceeding the domestic usage standards. This experimental study aims to determine the effect of varying UV-C light exposure times (15, 30, and 45 seconds) on Total Coliform reduction in the company's drilled well water. Using a posttest with control design, 24 samples were tested across 6 replications. The One-Way ANOVA test (p < 0.05) indicated a significant effect of exposure time on bacterial reduction. The most effective treatment was 45 seconds of UV-C exposure, which achieved a 100% reduction (0 CFU/100ml). It is highly recommended that the industry integrate this physical disinfection method into their clean water treatment systems to meet microbiological standards.
